2022 race briefing
Rachel Hood was born in Livonia, Michigan, and lives in Grand Rapids. She earned a bachelor’s degree in public policy from Michigan State University in 1999. She co-created Local First of West Michigan and served as executive director of the West Michigan Environmental Action Council and the West Grand Neighborhood Organization.
Hood won District 76 in 2018, defeating Amanda Brand 60.9% to 39.1%, and was re-elected in 2020. After redistricting she ran in District 81 in 2022. She was unopposed in the August 2 primary and defeated Republican Lynn Afendoulis 55.7% to 44.3% on November 8, 2022.
Hood withdrew from the 2024 race for District 81, which Democrat Stephen Wooden won. She left office on January 1, 2025. The PCCC backed Hood in 2022, and this card keeps PolRev’s record of that race.
