Angie Nixon is a Florida state representative from Jacksonville and was the 2026 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. A former union organizer, she has represented House District 13 since 2020 and won the August 18 primary over Alex Vindman — a major upset after being outspent by more than ten to one.
Nixon campaigned on Medicare for All, free childcare, and housing costs that have priced working Floridians out of their own state. She is only the second Black woman to win a major-party U.S. Senate nomination in Florida. Former President Barack Obama endorsed her on October 24, saying they both got their start as organizers. On November 3 she lost a close special election to Republican Sen. Ashley Moody, according to NBC News projections. She conceded that night and said she would keep organizing and registering voters.
