Candidate briefing
Randy Villegas is the Democratic candidate for California’s 22nd Congressional District in the Central Valley. A Bakersfield native, he earned degrees from Bakersfield College and Cal State Bakersfield and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz, and has worked as a teacher and small-business owner.
In the June 2 top-two primary he finished second with 32.4%, beating fellow Democrat Jasmeet Bains, and advanced to face Republican Rep. David Valadao, who led with 40.7%. Ballotpedia rates the race a battleground.
Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ro Khanna have campaigned with him. Our Revolution, the Working Families Party, Indivisible and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have endorsed him. Why Political Revolution supports him: he is a Sanders-style progressive trying to flip one of the most competitive Republican-held House seats in the country.
