South Carolina
Wendy Brawley
State House, South Carolina State House District 70
From Ballotpedia: "Wendy Brawley (Democratic Party) is a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 70. She assumed office on June 20, 2017. Her current term ends on November 14, 2022.
Brawley (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 70. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on June 14, 2022."
Wendy has a difficult campaign ahead. In the Democratic Primary she faces, two challengers, with one of these challengers an incumbent from another District who has chosen to run in Wendy's District. If she wins the primary, she will face a Green Party candidate and a Republican candidate. Hopefully, the left leaning vote doesn't split leaving a Republican winning the November 8th General Election.
Justin Bamberg
State House, South Carolina State House District 90
From Ballotpedia: "Justin Bamberg (Democratic Party) is a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 90. He assumed office in 2014. His current term ends on November 14, 2022.
Bamberg (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 90. He is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on June 14, 2022."
Justin has one challenger in the Democratic Primary on June 14th. Heading into the General Election, if Justin wins the Primary, he will face a Republican challenger. His District has changed with recent redistricting and this might impact election outcomes but in the 2020 election, the District was about evenly split in the vote between Democrats and Republicans, and Justin won by less than 100 votes. Progressive volunteer efforts would likely help this campaign to insure that the base is going to get out and vote in the Primary Election on June 14th, and then ion the General Election on November 8th.
Wendell Gilliard
State House, South Carolina State House District 111
From Ballotpedia: "Wendell Gilliard (Democratic Party) is a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives, representing District 111. He assumed office in 2008. His current term ends on November 14, 2022.
Gilliard (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the South Carolina House of Representatives to represent District 111. The Democratic primary for this office on June 14, 2022, was canceled."
Wendell will not be on the Primary Ballot in June, and faces no challenger in General Election on November 8th. So barring the unlikely possibility of a write-in candidate winning, Wendell will be re-elected on November 8th.
Tennessee
Odessa Kelly
U.S. House, Tennessee Congressional District 7
From Ballotpedia: "Odessa Kelly (Democratic Party) is running for election to the U.S. House to represent Tennessee's 7th Congressional District. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 4, 2022."
Odessa will face no other Democrat in the primary on August 4th. She will however have a tough campaign ahead going into the General Election on November 8th. In the General Election, she will be on the ballot with the District's incumbent Republican, and one Independent challenger. The District which appears to have contracted with redistricting voted heavily Republican in the past. Progressives should work with Odessa to use her community organizing skills to build her base of support, and get out Tennessee's notoriously non-voting voters. If Tennessee's Progressives want another Progressive representing the state in the Congress, here is that possibility.
Steve Cohen
U.S. House, Tennessee Congressional District 9
From Ballotpedia: "Steve Cohen (Democratic Party) is a member of the U.S. House, representing Tennessee's 9th Congressional District. He assumed office on January 3, 2007. His current term ends on January 3, 2023.
Cohen (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the U.S. House to represent Tennessee's 9th Congressional District. He is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 4, 2022."
Steve has one Democratic challenger in the primary on August 4th. If he wins the primary, he will face three Independent and one Republican challenger in the General Election on November 8th. Progressives should be supporting Steve NOW so that he can build his base to win the primary and in the General Election. His District with recent redistricting has expanded significantly outside of Memphis, and it is uncertain what impact this will have on electability. This is one of the few seats in TN that are filled with a Progressive candidate, and Progressives in the state should do what they can to see that Steve wins the 9th Congressional District election.
JB Smiley Jr
Governor, Tennessee
From Ballotpedia: "JB Smiley Jr. is a member of the Memphis City Council in Tennessee, representing Super District 8 Position 1. He assumed office on January 1, 2020. His current term ends on January 1, 2024.
Smiley (Democratic Party) is running for election for Governor of Tennessee. He is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 4, 2022."
This race will definitely be an uphill challenge for this Progressive taking on the red TN establishment, but it will be well worth the effort. JB will compete with two other Democrats in the August 4th primary. If he wins the primary, he will then face the current Republican incumbent and eight Independent candidates running for the Governor. Tennessee in the past has voted Red and this will be a difficult election to win, but it will be great to show TN that there are Progressives in the state and we want to see effective government which reflects the needs of "we the people".
Gloria Johnson
State House, Tennessee State House District 90
From Ballotpedia: "Gloria Johnson (Democratic Party) is a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, representing District 13. She assumed office on November 6, 2018. Her current term ends on November 8, 2022.
Johnson (Democratic Party) is running for re-election to the Tennessee House of Representatives to represent District 90. She is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 4, 2022."
Gloria will face no challengers in the Democratic primary on August 4th. She will face a Republican challenger in the General Election on November 8th. Progressives should be supporting her to build her base of support so that she can win in the General Election.
Lonnell Mattews
District Court Clerk, Davidson County, Tennessee
From Ballotpedia: "Lonnell Matthews Jr. (Democratic Party) is the Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk in Tennessee. Matthews assumed office in 2018. Matthews' current term ends in 2022.
Matthews (Democratic Party) is running for re-election for Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk in Tennessee. Matthews is on the ballot in the general election on August 4, 2022. Matthews advanced from the Democratic primary on May 3, 2022."
Barring a write-in, it is anticipated that Lonnell will be elected in the August 4th primary election which is the General Election for the Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk. County election records show that Lonnell is the only candidate for this office. Progressives in Davidson County should plan to vote for him on August 4th.
Lee Harris
Mayor, Shelby County, Tennessee
From Ballotpedia: "Lee Harris (Democratic Party) is the Shelby County Mayor in Tennessee. Harris assumed office in 2018. Harris' current term ends on September 1, 2022.
Harris (Democratic Party) is running for re-election for Shelby County Mayor in Tennessee. Harris is on the ballot in the general election on August 4, 2022. Harris advanced from the Democratic primary on May 3, 2022."
Progressives in Shelby County should be supporting Lee NOW and planning to vote for him on AUGUST 4th, which will be the GENERAL ELECTION DATE for this office. Lee will be challenged by one Republican on the ballot.
Texas
Michelle Vallejo
U.S. House, Texas Congressional District 15
From Ballotpedia: "Michelle Vallejo (Democratic Party) ran for election to the U.S. House to represent Texas' 15th Congressional District. She was on the ballot in the Democratic primary runoff on May 24, 2022. ... Ruben Ramirez and Michelle Vallejo ran in the Democratic Party primary runoff on May 24, 2022, in Texas' 15th Congressional District to determine which Democratic candidate would run in the district's general election on November 8, 2022. As of 2:00 p.m. ET on May 25, Vallejo led Ramirez, 50.1% to 49.9%."
If Michelle wins the primary, Progressives should plan to support her and vote for her in the General Election on November 8th.
