    Candidate briefing

Analilia Mejia is the U.S. representative for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District. She won the April 16, 2026 special election for the seat Mikie Sherrill left to become governor, defeating Republican Joe Hathaway, and was sworn in on April 20.

Mejia is co-director of the Center for Popular Democracy and was national political director of Bernie Sanders’s 2020 presidential campaign. She also served in the U.S. Department of Labor during the Biden administration.

On November 3 she defeated Hathaway in a rematch to win a full two-year term, according to NBC News and Associated Press projections. Our Revolution, the Working Families Party, Indivisible and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have endorsed her. Why Political Revolution supports her: she went straight from organizing the movement to holding a swing-district seat in Congress, and she held it on a working-class platform.
