2022 race briefing
Cody Thompson was born in Bowden, West Virginia, and graduated from Harman High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary social studies education from Marshall University and a master’s degree in special education from West Virginia University, and he has worked as a teacher with Randolph County Schools.
He was elected to the West Virginia House of Delegates from District 43 in 2018 and re-elected in 2020, serving from December 2018 to December 2022. In his second term he was minority vice chair of the House Education Committee.
After redistricting, Thompson ran in District 67 in 2022 and was unopposed in the May 10 Democratic primary. Republican Elias Coop-Gonzalez defeated him in the November 8 general election, 60.3% to 39.7%. Thompson ran again in 2024 and lost to Coop-Gonzalez 54.5% to 45.5%. The PCCC backed his 2022 campaign, and this card keeps PolRev’s record of that race.
