    Candidate briefing

Nithya Raman is a Los Angeles City Councilmember for District 4 and the progressive challenger for Mayor of Los Angeles in the 2026 general election. An urban planner and organizer, she is running on a platform of housing abundance, tenant protections, and a city government that actually delivers for working people.

In the June 2 primary she finished second with 29% to Mayor Karen Bass’s 34%, ahead of Spencer Pratt, sending Bass to the first runoff for a sitting Los Angeles mayor since 2005. A UC Berkeley IGS/Los Angeles Times poll released October 28 found Raman and Bass tied at 40% among likely voters.

Our Revolution and the Working Families Party have endorsed her. Why Political Revolution supports her: she has already beaten entrenched local power once — and she is taking the fight for housing justice and accountable government citywide.
