    Candidate briefing

Randy Villegas is the U.S. representative-elect for California’s 22nd Congressional District in the Central Valley. A Bakersfield native, he earned degrees from Bakersfield College and Cal State Bakersfield and a Ph.D. from UC Santa Cruz, and has worked as a teacher and small-business owner.

In the June 2 top-two primary he finished second with 32.4%, beating fellow Democrat Jasmeet Bains, and advanced to face Republican Rep. David Valadao, who led with 40.7%. On November 3 he defeated Valadao in the redrawn district, according to NBC News and Associated Press projections.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, Reps. Ro Khanna and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and gubernatorial candidate Xavier Becerra campaigned with him. Our Revolution, the Working Families Party, Indivisible and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have endorsed him. Why Political Revolution supports him: he is a Sanders-style progressive who flipped one of the most competitive Republican-held House seats in the country.
