Tom faces a challenging campaign for this state senate seat. He will compete with one other Democratic candidate in the August 9th primary. If he wins the primary, he will compete with a Republican candidate in a District which has voted Republican in recent elections. On a positive note, District 5 is substantially expanded and this might improve the chances of a Democratic candidate winning. Progressives will need to support Tom NOW so that he can start to build his base to win the primary. Progressive support will be required through the General Election on November 8th to result in a win for Tom.
