Candidate briefing
Ilhan Omar represents Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District. A refugee who became one of the first Muslim women in Congress, she champions anti-war foreign policy, economic justice, and accountability for corporate and military power.
On October 12, 2026, three weeks before Election Day, federal agents searched Omar’s Washington home under a warrant tied to what the Justice Department called an ongoing federal criminal investigation. Omar called it “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,” adding, “I will not be silenced.” House Democratic leaders called the raid “deeply disturbing” and part of the “continued corrupt weaponization of the federal government against Donald Trump’s adversaries,” and Rep. Rashida Tlaib said simply, “I stand with Ilhan.” Her lawyers have since demanded the return of seized property, calling the probe “vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated.”
Omar won the August 11 Democratic primary with 80.7% of the vote and faces Republican John Nagel and independent DeVelle Jackson on November 3.
Why Political Revolution supports her: she expands who gets to lead in American politics, and she keeps speaking out even as the federal government is turned against progressive voices.
