Daniel Biss is the 2026 Democratic nominee for Illinois’s 9th Congressional District. He won the March 17 primary in a 16-candidate field and faces Republican John Elleson and independent Delila Barrera in the November 3 general. The seat is open: Rep. Jan Schakowsky is retiring after holding it since 1999.
Biss is the mayor of Evanston. He won that office in 2021 and was re-elected on April 1, 2025 with 62.7 percent. He is a former Illinois state representative and state senator.
