    Candidate briefing

Greg Casar has represented Texas’s 35th Congressional District since 2023. A former Austin City Council member and labor organizer, he chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus and fights for workers’ rights, immigrant justice, housing, and bodily autonomy.

Texas’s 2025 redistricting folded Austin’s two Democratic-leaning districts into one, and Rep. Lloyd Doggett chose not to seek reelection. Casar is running in the redrawn 37th District, anchored in central and eastern Travis County. He won the March 3 Democratic primary with 80.7% of the vote over Esther Fleharty and faces Republican Lauren Peña on November 3.

Why Political Revolution supports him: he proves progressive politics can win and govern in Texas — and he refuses to water down the movement’s agenda.
