Born in Bhilai, India, Padma Kuppa worked as a business analyst for Ally Financial. She has served on the board of the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion and as board president of the Troy Historical Society. She represented District 41 in the Michigan House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023.
In 2022 she ran for the open District 9 seat in the Michigan State Senate. She was unopposed in the August 2 Democratic primary. In the November 8, 2022 general election, Republican Michael Webber defeated her 50.3% to 49.7%, a margin of 795 votes.
