Hawaii
Natalia Hussey-Burdick
State House, Hawaii State House District 50
From Ballotpedia: "Natalia Hussey-Burdick (Democratic Party) is running for election to the Hawaii House of Representatives to represent District 50. Hussey-Burdick is on the ballot in the Democratic primary on August 13, 2022."
Natalia is facing a challenging campaign ahead. She is on the primary ballot with four other Democratic candidates running in the August 13th primary for this open seat. Progressives should support her NOW in order that she can build her base, win the primary, and then go on to the General Election where there will be a Republican challenger. District 50 has voted Republican in the past and only in 2020 was a Democrat first elected. With recent redistricting the boundaries of the District have expanded, with the District growing geographically, and it is uncertain what impact the redistricting will have on the election. Progressives in her District should support her get out the vote efforts and should plan to vote for her in the primary on August 13th and in the General Election on November 8th.
Ikaika Hussey
City Council, Hawaii
Ikaika Hussey is running for Honolulu City Council District 6. The District does not have an incumbent to run against, but eight candidates are running in the August 9th primary. Ikaika previously ran for this council seat in 2018, but lost in the primary election to the incumbent who won with greater than 50% of the vote. Ikaika came in second in that race, and should still have some of that base supporting him. Progressives should support Ikaika NOW to insure that he is in the top two in the Democratic Primary election on August 9th. After a primary win, further support will be required to insure a win in the General Election on November 8th.
