    Candidate briefing

Aisha Wahab is the U.S. representative for California’s 14th Congressional District. She won the August 18, 2026 special election to finish the term left open when Eric Swalwell resigned, defeating fellow Democrat Melissa Hernandez, and was sworn in on September 2. She is the first Afghan American elected to Congress.

Wahab served on the Hayward City Council from 2018 to 2022 and in the California State Senate from 2022 to 2026, where she was the first Muslim and Afghan American member.

On November 3 she faces Hernandez, a BART board member, again for a full term. Our Revolution, Indivisible, the Working Families Party and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have endorsed her. Why Political Revolution supports her: she won a Bay Area House seat despite AIPAC opposition and brings a progressive state Senate record to Congress.
