Melanie D’Arrigo is a healthcare advocate, community organizer, LGBTQ+ nonprofit co-founder and mother of three from Long Island. She was raised in a union household and was the first in her family to attend college.
She first ran in 2020, challenging Rep. Tom Suozzi in the Democratic primary, and won 25.7% of the vote. In 2022, with the seat open, she finished fourth in the August 23 primary with 16.0%. Robert Zimmerman won the nomination and lost the November general election to George Santos.
