    Candidate briefing

Abdul El-Sayed is the 2026 Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in Michigan. An epidemiologist and the former health director for Detroit and Wayne County, he won the August 4 primary over Rep. Haley Stevens.

El-Sayed first ran for governor in 2018 and has spent years arguing for Medicare for All, public-health investment, and an economy that works for people who do the work. His Senate campaign is one of the cycle’s clearest working-class challenges in a battleground state.

Why Political Revolution supports him: Michigan is a national Senate race, and El-Sayed is running it as a movement campaign — not a consultant-safe one.
