    Candidate briefing

Peggy Flanagan is Minnesota’s U.S. senator-elect. An Ojibwe organizer, she has been lieutenant governor since 2019 and served in the Minnesota House from 2015 to 2019.

In the August 11 primary she defeated Rep. Angie Craig, 59.0% to 39.4%, in one of the cycle’s clearest wins for an insurgent progressive over the party establishment. Craig conceded and endorsed her.

On November 3 she defeated Republican Michele Tafoya, according to NBC News projections, becoming the first Native American woman elected to the U.S. Senate. Former President Barack Obama endorsed her on October 26, noting that she was an organizer on his first presidential campaign and led Minnesota’s fights for a higher minimum wage and paid family leave. Our Revolution, Indivisible and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee have endorsed her. Why Political Revolution supports her: she beat the establishment pick on a pledge to take on corporate power, and she won Minnesota’s open Senate seat.
