Shahid Buttar ran for the U.S. House in California’s 11th Congressional District in 2022, challenging incumbent Nancy Pelosi from the left.
Buttar was born in London, England. He earned a B.A. from Loyola University Chicago and a J.D. from Stanford Law School in 2003, and worked as a legal advocate and as director of grassroots advocacy at the Electronic Frontier Foundation.
In the June 7, 2022 top-two primary he finished third with 10.4% of the vote, behind Pelosi at 71.7% and Republican John Dennis at 10.7%. Pelosi won the November 8, 2022 general election.
