    Candidate briefing

Ed Markey is the senior U.S. senator from Massachusetts. He has served in the Senate since 2013 after decades in the U.S. House.

On September 1 he won the Democratic primary over Rep. Seth Moulton, who had campaigned for generational change. On November 3 he won a third Senate term, defeating Republican John Deaton, according to NBC News and Associated Press projections.

Markey was a lead Senate sponsor of the Green New Deal resolution with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and co-sponsors Medicare for All. Our Revolution and Our Revolution Massachusetts have endorsed him. Why Political Revolution supports him: he is the progressive Senate incumbent in Massachusetts, and he turned back a primary challenge on a climate and workers’ agenda.
