2022 race briefing
Michelle Vallejo was born in Alton, Texas, and studied political science and history at Columbia University. She is a business owner who co-founded two organizations focused on community leadership and minority women in business.
In 2022 she won the Democratic nomination in a May 24 runoff over Ruben Ramirez, 50.1% to 49.9%, a margin of 30 votes. In the November general election, Monica De La Cruz won 53.3% to Vallejo’s 44.8%.
