About this event
Hey, we’re super excited to hear that you’re interested in this protest! To best succeed, though, we need to make sure that we have a unified message for our neighbors and representatives to hear. Please read this before taking action with us so that, in the event of media coverage, we can be more powerful and confident.
Foremost, there are two practical purposes to this protest.
1. To generate conversation with our neighbors on the issues at hand. By generating conversation, people are more readily able to take part in the democratic process. It also leads us to becoming a more informed and empathetic voting public.
2. To show to our representatives and senators – Dan Meuser, Dave McCormick, and John Fetterman – our support for the ideas listed directly below, as well as our disdain for the illegal actions and injustices listed afterward.
What we are fighting for:
· Essential services – Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security
· Human Rights – due process, essential equality among all people, and enforcing rights to free speech and expression
· Our environment – saving us from climate collapse
· Knowledge – maintaining our education systems and recognizing those historically significant peoples who have had a positive impact on others and our society
What we are fighting against:
· The unlawful firing of tens (perhaps hundreds) of thousands of federal employees
· Further (unnecessary) subsidization of multi-billion-dollar corporations
· Federal support of genocide on the Gaza strip
· Conflicts of interest pertaining specifically to Elon Musk, whose companies have received federal subsidization while Musk plays a detrimental (albeit significant) role in our federal government
· Infringements upon human rights, particularly when discussing unconstitutional arrests made by ICE
· The dismantling of several of our federal agencies
If you see someone speaking to the press and they appear to be struggling, be ready to step in with these points in order to support them. Do this when they take a natural pause.
Note: this is a peaceful protest in all respects! If someone instigates, do not react. We are here to show support for certain policies and disdain for others – we are not here to bicker and feud with our neighbors. This is counterproductive to our cause. We must show love for all those who attend. We are stronger together.
See you soon!
