Phonebank for Foster Campbell

Louisiana Senate candidate Foster Campbell is our last hope for securing another Senate seat in this election. The jungle primary was on November 8th, and he finished second, with 17% of the vote. Republican John Kennedy won with 25%, but due to Louisiana’s two-round system the two candidates will run against each other in a runoff election on December 10th.

Since the primary, there has been a massive outpouring of support, publicity, and resources for Campbell. He has raised more than $1 million in a few days, has rapidly increased his phone-banking capacity, and has built up a lot of media exposure and momentum.

He could win this race, but in an ardently red state like Louisiana, it will be tough. Recently, interest in Foster Campbell has been three times as high as interest in John Kennedy ( Google Trends ).

Campbell needs our help. Phonebank for Campbell . Each call only takes a few minutes and we have pre-written scripts to make it easy. Your support can help us send Campbell to the Senate.

Campbell is a former cattle rancher and he is currently a public servant with 26 years of experience in the state senate and 12 years on the public service commission. He has a strong record of standing up for consumers and championing populist causes, such as college loan forgiveness, stopping utility disconnections during severe weather, exposing overcharging by prison phone companies, and creating a $1 billion education fund from the Tobacco Settlement to invest in public schools. His message may have a stronger impact on Louisiana voters than that of John Kennedy, an Oxford-educated state treasurer that has taken on the platform and language of supporting Trump.

Campbell has reassured his constituents that the runoff election is not a referendum on the national election and is purely about building a better future for Louisianans, whom he believes have been swindled by their representatives and deserve more. This is in stark contrast to Kennedy’s approach, which is to continually harken back to the national election and ride Trump’s wave of support in Louisiana.

Campbell has worked hard on behalf of working people, he’s one of the few Senate candidates in Louisiana to acknowledge the human causes of climate change, and he brings a lot of experience as an elected official to the table. He was in the state senate and public service commission for over three decades, whereas John Kennedy has only been an elected official since 2007. Though Foster Campbell is not a typically progressive candidate, with positions against abortion and gun control, he is progressives’ last chance to secure a Democratic Senate seat, and he aligns with us on a substantial number of issues. He seeks to achieve equal pay for women, paid family leave, an increased minimum wage, Medicaid expansion and improvement of Obamacare, tax breaks for companies that employ disabled people, and holding oil companies accountable for restoring the Louisiana coastline.

It would be a big victory for progressives to secure a Democratic foothold in Louisiana. It’ll give us more firepower in the senate to obstruct Trump if he attempts to impinge upon our rights and exploit us. The senate is 48-51 right now and Campbell would bring us to 49. With a handful of Republican senators voting with us on certain issues, Campbell’s vote could be decisive. Senators Lindsey Graham, Jeff Flake, Orrin Hatch, Rand Paul, and others have opposed Trump on a variety of issues from mass deportation to his cabinet picks.
