As an experienced lawyer and community organizer, Nikkita Oliver understands the many ways that policy and people intersect and the challenges that arise when policies do not work in the best interests of the people. Oliver is running for the open mayoral seat in Seattle as part of the newly-formed Peoples Party, and her campaign will focus on progressive, grassroots solutions to help rebuild Seattle from the ground up.
Seattle faces major challenges in the forms of homelessness and over-incarceration. Oliver’s homelessness initiatives look to protect and empower the dispossessed, as well as lower financial barriers to housing. She also believes in data-driven solutions to over-incarceration, and her experience as a teaching artist at Creative Justice – an alternative to juvenile incarceration – is just one example of her dedication to reforming criminal justice. In order to help solve both of these issues in the long-term, the heart of Oliver’s campaign is a focus on education. Her vision includes discipline reform, bolstering the curriculum with arts and ethnic studies, and giving more direct, democratic control to schools.
Oliver’s platform provides Seattle the opportunity to shape and define the direction of progressive politics. The Political Revolution is excited to endorse Nikkita Oliver’s campaign and her vision to create a more just society!
