ABC/Disney Boycott and National Protests on Sunday, September 21 in Response to Trump’s Attack on Free Speech

I have friends everywhere

Americans across the country will take to the streets on Sunday, September 21 in a nationwide wave of boycotts and protests to defend free speech. The actions target Disney and its affiliated platforms, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN, after the company suspended late-night host Jimmy Kimmel under pressure from the Trump-appointed FCC Chair Brendan Carr. Advocates warn this is a dangerous precedent where corporations bend to authoritarian demands, silencing dissenting voices in the media.

Already, protests have erupted outside Disney’s Burbank headquarters and ABC’s New York studio with demonstrators chanting “You can’t cancel free speech” and carrying signs demanding accountability.

Celebrities have also voiced their support for the boycott. Tatiana Maslany, known for her role in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law," publicly urged her followers to cancel their subscriptions to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN. Producer Damon Lindelof announced he would not work with Disney unless Kimmel's suspension is reversed. Other notable figures, including Ben Stiller and Jean Smart, have expressed solidarity with Kimmel and criticized the suspension as an attack on free expression.

On September 21, dozens of demonstrations will take place at ABC affiliate stations nationwide, signaling a mass refusal to accept corporate censorship driven by political power.

Organizers are urging the public to:

  • Join a protest at a local ABC affiliate station.

  • Cancel subscriptions to Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN.

  • Contact Disney and ABC executives to demand reinstatement of Kimmel.

  • Support organizations defending civil liberties and media independence.

All protests adhere to a shared commitment to nonviolence and community safety.
