Teachers are something special, perhaps for all of us.  As a lifelong resident of the Cincinnati area, both as a student of public schools and public school teacher, Brian Garry has worked to change his community for the better from the ground up. The Political Revolution is endorsing Brian because, in addition to that, Brian’s progressive platform is matched with a track record of activism and personal commitment to fighting for social justice and civil rights.  Brian wants to focus on, among other issues, affordable housing for the citizens of Cincinnati.  Brian supports several ways the city can use its governance to effect affordable housing like rent caps, tax relief and land trusts can help current landowners as well as renters thrive in the face of changes from development and gentrification. Among the more critical issues, Brian sees the opioid epidemic as a public health crisis and wants to do whatever is possible to save Cincinnati’s health centers – and takes health and public policy a step further by including nutrition in his platform (as well as helping prevent urban food deserts by penalizing grocers who pull out of neighborhoods.) Brian’s stance on social justice extends to ending the war on drugs and the school-to-prison pipeline, as well as demanding justice for Sam Dubose and Kevin Neri, and like The Political Revolution, he affirms that Black Lives Matter.
